Privacy Policy
Your Privacy
The confidentiality of your information is important to us as we
recognize that you do business with us based upon your trust that we
will keep your information confidential as described in this notice.
We collect nonpublic personal information about you from the following
sources:
- Information we receive from you on applications or other forms
- Information about your transactions with us, our affiliates, or
others
- Information we receive from a consumer reporting agency
We do not disclose any nonpublic personal information about our customers
or former customers to anyone, except as permitted by law.
These procedures will continue to remain in effect after you cease to
receive financial products and services from us.
We restrict access to nonpublic personal information about you to those
of our employees who need to know that information in order for us to
provide products or services to you. We maintain physical, electronic
and procedural safeguards that comply with federal standards to guard
your nonpublic personal information.
Keep Your Personal Information Safe
With the increase in identity theft sweeping the nation, it pays
to be sure that your personal information is protected.
Take precautions to secure your information by placing passwords on
your bank, credit card and telephone accounts. Don’t use words or numbers
that are easily available – like your mother’s maiden name, your birth
date, the last four digits of your social security or telephone numbers
or a series of consecutive numbers. Use a combination of letters and
numbers in your passwords.
Ask how your personal information is kept secure at work and who has
access to it. Ask about disposal procedures for those records as well.
It’s easy to be caught off guard. Don’t give out personal information
over the phone, by mail or on the Internet unless you have initiated
the contact or you are sure you know whom you’re dealing with. Before
giving out personal information, confirm you are talking with a legitimate
representative of a legitimate organization. To do so, call using the
phone number on your statement or in the phone book.
Deposit outgoing mail in a post office collection box, or at your local
post office instead of in an unsecured mailbox. Shred all charge receipts,
copies of credit applications or offers, insurance forms, physician
statements, checks and bank statement, deposit receipts and expired
charge cards.
Keep your social security card in a safe place and only give out your
social security number when it is absolutely necessary.
Information stored on your computer needs extra protection, too. Here
are some ways to secure personal data on your computer:
- Update your anti-virus software regularly
- Don’t download files from strangers or click on hyperlinks from
people you don’t know
- Use a firewall and a secure browser
- Don’t store financial information on your laptop
- Avoid using an automatic log-in feature that saves your user name
and password
Keeping your personal information private is an ongoing task. The
Economy Co-operative bank takes every precaution to keep your private
information from falling into the wrong hands.
